Reflective clothing: a new transformation under cross-border development

May 23,2025

Recently, there have been many new developments in reflective clothing in fields such as fashion, transportation, and public services.

On the fashion stage, Canada Goose collaborated with Concepts to reshape the classic MacMillan parka coat with reflective materials. It is low-key in sunlight and eye-catching in low light, breaking the limitation of reflective clothing that only focuses on functionality and successfully entering the fashion industry.

There are hidden concerns regarding traffic safety. A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the United States found that reflective strip clothing worn by pedestrians can interfere with autonomous driving collision avoidance systems. Tests have shown that the Honda CR-V has a collision rate of 100% when the dummy wears dynamic reflective strip clothing, and the Mazda CX-5 has a higher risk of collision with such clothing under partial lighting conditions, highlighting the importance of the synergy between technology and safety equipment.

The new uniforms worn by Singapore’s public transportation company employees bring new ideas. The uniform designed in collaboration between New MRT and Nanyang Academy of Arts incorporates reflective strips, which are breathable and wrinkle resistant, balancing the comfort of employees in hot climates and work safety in low light environments, while also showcasing a unique sense of fashion.

From these news reports, it can be seen that reflective clothing is breaking through tradition and shining in multiple fields, and its future development is worth looking forward to.
